Good Things about this Art Fair:
The setup for this show was a breeze. I was able to pull my van directly next to my booth and completely setup before moving. Parking for artists was also quite excellent with free parking within 100 yards of our booth.
Another great thing about the show was that it was on Randolph street in Chicago - think restaurant row with fabulous places for getting lunch (there was good food for sale at the show as well) and/or dinner.
Bad Things about this Art Fair:
This was the first year of the show and it really needs to gather steam. The area is in the middle of a growing condo area and with good weather and a lot of publicity it might become a good show.
There were some talented artists there but the crowd did not seem to appreciate the level of talent that was there. The crowd was quite small with, by our estimate, less than 500 people in attendance over the weekend.
One big issue was that it was in a parking lot of a union hall. There did not seem to be a lot of traffic coming down Randolph street specifically for the show nor was there much signage on Randolph street except right at the show parking lot. Most of the crowd I saw was from walkers.
Also, the weather on Saturday was awful with intermittent rain and fairly strong winds (15 - 30 mph gusts) and a cold breeze from Lake Michigan. The winds did not die down on Sunday however the temps actually got into the 50's. It was cold!
The weather seemed to put a real damper on the crowd. There was a fair amount of time the artists (about 50 or so) easily outnumbered the buyers.
Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show:
The show staff was very helpful and great to work with.
Right now this show, if it continues, needs to grow quite bit. If you are local to Chicago it might be a show for you but, at this time and based on this year, the sales do not support much travel expenses.
