Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show:
Do not apply as an Emerging Artist. You’ll be placed in a dark tent.

The weather was miserable. I’m told by many attendees and other artists that the weather is quite frequently poor due to the time of the year.

Sales for everyone were poor. This is a college area and many of the attendees were college kids. Lots of people but no one was carrying packages.

If you decide to do this show, stay at the Marriott downtown. You can walk to and from your booth.

Additional Commentary on this Show:
Be aware - I was accepted as an Emerging Artist because this was my very first Art festival show. There was no mention of the dark tent that Emerging Artists are placed in. When I saw photos, I knew my glass couldn’t hang or show in the tent.

I requested that I bring my own tent to set up beside the Emerging Artist tent. I was granted that request, but charged the full Artist fee, while Emerging Artists inside the tent didn’t have to pay any fee.

What prompted you to submit a review today?
I felt this show was not well organized, communication was poor (4 days to get an email reply), exaggerated attendance.

Any comments or feedback? Any suggestions on this form or our service?

Good Things about this Art Fair:
Easy load in with scheduled times. Load out was by pass only. All went real smooth.

Hotel available practically on site which was real convenient. Parking paid as part of your booth fee.

This year weather was unbelievably nice which brought out the crowds in all shapes and forms.

For the number of people, sales should have been higher for everyone around me. I had approximately 9x booth fee.

There was an artist dinner on Saturday night which would have been great if they hadn't run out of food before all the artist were able to attend.

Overall organization was good. Communications was good. I did see large packages being carried out, but more strollers than bags.

Bad Things about this Art Fair:
There wasn't anything bad about the show. It was an average show with good artists and attendance.

Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show:
Look at the other artists who have attended and see how you fit in.

Good Things about this Art Fair:
This is my first time at this art fair and I really enjoyed it. I was able to park my vehicle for unloading and roll my items only a short distance. Since I have a trailer with a drop down tailgate I had plenty of room.

Of course you want to get there early because it does get crowded. I had plenty of room behind my booth for storage. Also the booths had space in between and gave all room for easy set up.

Saturday the sales were great for me. Large sale early in the day was a big plus. Total number of sales were about the norm for me for a two day show.

The booth sitters were great, very friendly and around my age so you had trust in them. Crowd was great and very friendly and easy to talk too and it was very busy on Saturday.

Nice artist meal. Even though my booth was close to the main stage the music was not distracting, gave a great atmosphere.

Bad Things about this Art Fair:
My only real concern was the parking situation. Since I have a trailer I was assigned to a lot (2) that did not have the right set up for parking with trailers, with bad flow and no room to maneuver.

Also I went to park around 20 minutes for the show time and the parking folks were not available. I parked in lot (5) and had plenty of room. Told Sunday my the parking guy that I was not allowed to park in that lot and had to use the one assigned. I had dropped my trailer in his lot and was told to just leave there and it worked out okay.

Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show:
Get there early for set up. Buying food there was a hassle, long lines, might want to bring your own sandwich and drinks.

Good Things about this Art Fair:
The show is in a college town so there is a pretty well educated crowd that shows up. There seemed to be a larger percentage of people coming into my booth who were interested in what I was doing, although that didn't necessarily translate into sales.

I exhibit in the parking lot area, which has an option for Friday set-up. Since it takes me forever to set up my booth, I really like this option. There is, however, a downside to setting up in the parking lot area (see bad things about this show below).

The weather was spectacular. Although the forecast was for rain on Sunday, it never materialized, although there were some wind issues late in the day Sunday.

Set-up and tear down were convenient. Lots of extra space behind the booth (6-8 feet). Free parking in a city lot for both my car and trailer for the week-end.

Bad Things about this Art Fair:
Sales. My sales were slightly up from last year, but last year wasn't all that great either. I can't blame the show, they really brought out the crowds.

My decision to show in the parking lot area probably cut down on the amount of traffic. There were a lot more people in the street than in the parking lot.

Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show:
Set up on Friday is allowed in the parking lot area, but, if this is not important to you, choose a location in the street.

There is more traffic and a better flow in the street. Set-up is early Saturday morning in the street.

Additional Commentary on this Show:
The committee did a great job of organization, including a nice party for the artists.

There was a communication breakdown between the art fair and the police department, which resulted in some artists getting parking tickets. The committee worked on the problem and asked any artist who got a ticket to turn it in to them for payment.

I don't know whether the police were going to forgive the tickets or whether the committee was going to pay the fines, but it was a good gesture.
