Good Things about this Art Fair:
The ease of set up-but that was because MANY vendors did not show up or booths were not filled (due to poor sales for years)
Sadly all the great things about this show stopped about 10 yrs ago. Nothing good is left, just a bunch of out of state organizers, trash nazi's and all artists from out of state (since everyone here knows the show is crap now)
What could this Art Fair have done better?:
EVERYTHING:
1. Have an organizer that lives in the town, not in Texas
2.If the previous advertising works, don't switch to something cheaper that only attracts poor customers with no money to spend which only insures no one comes back next year including the customers!
3. If you have bands, hire good ones, not the cheapest trash you can find. The music was awful
4. The traffic flow was a disaster because customers had no idea which way to walk. The booths were all in groups of 4 instead of rows. If there had been any customers there (which 2018 there were almost none)
Every vendor I talked to mentioned the traffic flow was not at all well thought out.
5.Show is overpriced. It was a decent show maybe 15+ years ago when I first did it. They really should not have this show anymore.
Kiss of death was ALMOST ALL ARTISTS WERE OUT OF STATE AS COLORADO ARTISTS HAVE ALREADY BEEN EXHAUSTED. NO ONE DID WELL, NOT EVEN THE FOOD PEOPLE!
I only saw 1 customer carrying something he had bought - that's 1 in a 3 day show!!!
Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show:
DO NOT DO THIS SHOW!
It's beyond bad. in 2018 I talked to about 15 different vendors and by 4 pm the first day, most said they had not sold a single thing. One vendor made $10 and she was the pride of the show!
They should not have this show anymore. They're done! It is so past its prime it is scary. So many artists from far away lost THOUSANDS here. I'm sad to say this but someone had to tell artists the truth.
Additional Commentary on this Show:
Many shows keep raising their prices which means the artists have to raise their prices.
Its a matter of math. At some point you will hit a ceiling where less than 1% of your customers can buy. We have long since passed that point. The only ones doing well are the absentee organizers that make their money up front no matter what.
Artists are losing ground in this country and economy. I have always been very successful at shows but this year has been a total loss so far for me.
Whatever is behind this is gaining ground. I guess most of us will be working at Walmart or selling insurance in 5 yrs!
