I did the Salem Art Fair in 2018.
It's a great art fair to attend but people just weren't buying. The booth fees are high ($500 +) and I didn't earn enough to pay for it, ouch. I spoke to other artists in the same boat. The potter next to me said he did better in one day at the Eugene Saturday market. Attendance was good but people were treating the artists like an exhibit, enjoying the work, complimenting on it, and then spending their $ on beer and food while they watched some awesome bands perform. The Fair is run well, they treat the artists fantastic. Hot breakfast, (we are talking made to order omelettes and huge pancakes, outside, in a park!) snacks all day, booth sitters, bottled water etc.I did this fair about ten years ago and did great so maybe it's just a fluke but when I talked to other artists they said each year of the last three had been getting worse for sales. The fair is held in a beautiful park with lots of shade. It's a great fair, but sales were awful in 2018.

Good Things about this Art Fair:
Location: Beautiful park like setting among old trees. There is shade, sun and in between.

Booths are well laid out with room for backup inventory. Very well attended. I live in the area. Most people are well aware of this show and make time to go every year.

Load in/out is very good. There is a good chance that you can drive right to your booth. Artist amenities are above average - where else can you get made to order AM omelets?

Quality of art is high. There are plenty of browsers, but also plenty of buyers.

Bad Things about this Art Fair:
Wish they didn't charge at the door to get in, but it does discourage some of the lower end browsers.

Jury fee is expensive ($45). There are a lot of booths, contributing to a certain level of visual overload for many visitors - where they have seen so much good stuff, they don't remember yours.

Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show:
Be prepared to offer shipping. Be prepared for custom orders.

The weather can get hot, but I've also seen it rain. Overall, the weather should be quite pleasant.

Make sure you leave an impression with any possible connections. Again, there are a lot of good artists here, you want to make sure people remember you.

Additional Commentary on this Show:
Last year sales for me were pretty good. The year before, merely average. So there is some variability to sales. Overall I think your chances are pretty decent to have a good show, but will you knock it out of the park? I haven't had that happen at this show yet.
