Good Things about this Art Fair:
Easy to set up
Bad Things about this Art Fair:
I used to like this show. Now unless you are part of the "click" you are ignored. They would come around with water, breakfast bags etc. When I asked for another water for my daughter the answer was...Didn't I already give you one! Seriously!
Then the storm hit late Saturday and we packed out on Sunday because it was still raining. We got an attitude and asked why we were leaving. Again seriously??
Never again, the show was great 2 years ago....not now.
Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show:
Unless you know somebody...don't bother. Not run by the same folks who started it.
Additional Commentary on this Show:
We drove almost 2 1/2 hours for this show and have to stay over. Not worth it anymore.

good to hear. I lived and worked in Sylvania over 20 years ago. I saw this show and considered it this year but had overlapping dates with another event.
When I contacted them for more info they were great and quickly responded to my questions about attendance etc.
I've got friends up there still so this show is on my maybe list.

Good Things about this Art Fair:
Reasonably priced, easy to do, volunteers great!
People friendly and interested. People bought both small and large. Mix of good art and not so good.
(my opinion!). Well run machine.
Bad Things about this Art Fair:
This year the hours were too long. Other than that well run machine. Only 3 years old I am sure they will get better and better.
Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show:
There is good art and not so good. Local art show.
Additional Commentary on this Show:
Maple & Main, Sylvania, Ohio, May 31 & June 1, Entries on Zapplication but send check to the Sylvania Community Arts Commission. Booth fee reasonable. 3 year old event that they are working hard to improve and really learn from the artists. Very willing to listen!! Local blues & jazz bands play throughout the event but at a very respectable sound level (however, I was not at the front of the street!) A few well known restaurants catering to the crowd and artists. No artist lines. The requisite kettle korn and funnel cakes! Local restaurants open with discounts.
Just the facts:
1. Good communication from the committee. Good location maps and directions (not those hand drawn dandies that only the person that drew them can understand!!)
2. Easy in & out. Very organized and calm. Plenty of volunteers to help you unload, set up and tear down...and they are nice!
3. Close parking for artists. This is flat country so carrying and wheeling-in are ok.
4. Nice hotels close by. Nels J will have to chime in here..I got to go home at night! ;]
5. Art fair layout: Downtown block is set up in 4 tent pods down the center of the main street. There is one wing but only 6 booths long and very noticeable to shoppers. 1residential block of tents only on one side of the street. Lots of room to move around and store your "stuff".
6. Hours this year were a little wonky for a small local art fair. There was another event starting at 7PM to honor a local art legend. I totally understand what they what they hoped would happen..that folks would shop on their way there but we all know that didn't happen. This is only a 3year old show..they will get this sorted out, I am sure.
7. Quality control. There is good art here and not so good art here. Mix of large and small. Something for everyone. I am not sure that I would drive over 4-5 hours to get here. Hard for me to say since I like doing this art fair and hope to really see the quality come up. With all the happy, calm, "excited to see you" folks running it and the welcoming buying community I don't want to sound like I am warning you to move on down the road, as I said I would love to see it grow but I understand the issues here!!
Side Note: I heard through the "art vine" that they kicked a buy/sell guy out...that makes me want to support this art fair even more!
Final thoughts:
All in all this is a well run machine. Volunteers truly want to help especially if they see you are without your own helpers! There are gift bags every day with water, homemade muffin/bagel or cookies, fruit, etc. for you and your helpers! A coffee/tea tent while you set up. Volunteers come by literally all day with water and its cold! While I expect none of this and come prepared with my own all this is a welcome treat!
I had a good coupla days. Sold well got a batch of commissions (true ones) and got to meet some new folks, plus had great tent neighbors!
I will plan on this one again.
(Did anyone count how many times I wrote happy & calm?? Well, it's true!!)
