Good Things about this Art Fair:
Ease of set-up, and even the load-out was pretty good. Tents are already set up by the show and are built to withstand severe winds.
The location was beautiful at Myriad Gardens (next year the show is moving a few blocks away to the Civic Center).
Sales were decent for me, the attendees were very friendly and informed about art. Lots of volunteer help, an indoor bathroom, superb support from staff.
Bad Things about this Art Fair:
The 20% commission makes the overall booth fee pretty stiff.
The weather!!! I feel like I'm playing Russian roulette: wind, rain, threat of baseball-size hail, tornadoes.
The way the booth spaces are set up - triangular spaces - makes it difficult to move everything in (and yourself) during rain; and it's also tight moving it in and zipping up at night.
We were cold, and according to others who have done the show, weather this year was comparatively mild.
The hours are brutal: 7:30am-9pm (yes, 7:30AM, this is not a misprint) on Tues., then 11-9 thru Sat., 11-6 on Sunday.
Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show:
If you easily get into the top shows, you might want to skip this one because of the long hours and the weather; but for me, considering how tough sales can be at less good shows nowadays, it was worth it. I sold out of many things.
Additional Commentary on this Show:
I had heard that this was a very traditional crowd, but the abstract artist next to me did very well (large abstract watercolor and ink).
