Good Things about this Art Fair:
Promoters were nice. Excellent timing and location. (Shopping mall, just before Christmas.)
Bad Things about this Art Fair:
I applied well ahead of the deadline, but was located near a mall entrance that is rarely used. There was a performance stage and seating set up between me (and half a dozen other artists) and the rest of the mall. Behind the stage was a tall black curtain. Anyone coming down that wing of the mall could not see that there were any booths beyond the curtain.
Also, Saturday morning was an event to provide free Christmas toys for military families. The lines of people and their kids snaked around our booths from opening Saturday until 1:00 p.m. No one in the lines would look at our booths, for fear of losing their place in line. And no one else in the mall could get near our booths (if they happened to go past the black curtain) because of the line of military families 4 abreast, filling the area from the wall to our booths.
We asked for consideration of our plight (an adjustment on booth fees, for instance) but were met with defensiveness and "it's not our fault."
Also, parking was at the opposite end of the mall.
Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show:
I would not recommend doing this show unless you apply very early and obtain (at added cost) a booth space in the center of the mall. There were plenty of mall patrons at the show, just almost none down our dead-end-like wing.
Also, be aware that there will be plenty of buy/sell. (There are no provisions against this at this show.)
