This was my first time for doing this show so I'm not sure how badly the rain affected attendance but other artists said it was down. For me it just didn't work. Most of the attendees were either retirees or tourists. This does not work for large wall art. It's a hard show to do alone with setup and breakdown the same day. I got a cheap hotel and the booth fee is not high so I ended up with an $85 profit. Not worth it for me.

This is a one day show so many op out once they hear that. Don't! This is a delightful and very well organized and established show that is worth the trip for one day. I personally spent seven hours to get there- but it was worth it to me.
The weather was good which helped of course, but the setting could have not been better. Right down the middle of the main street in Historical Williamsburg (beautiful) and set up was a breeze.
I have pretty contemporary encaustic work so I was a little worried that the show would have a lot of crafts and a colonial bent but that wasn't the case. It had a great cross-section of work and the reception to all work was excellent. It was the 50th Anniversary of the show and I made as much on that Sunday (usually slow-right?) as I do at a two day show.
I have heard recently about the "Art on the Square" Shows and hear they are well chosen and organized and I think that is true. Lunch was delivered and booth sitters were on hand to help if needed. Lots of purchases and interest in the work and delightful, knowledgeable people to boot. Next time that you think that a one day show is not worth the drive and time -rethink - you might be pleasantly surprised!
