Good Things about this Art Fair: The show was recommended by friends who participated last year and did very well. I described the venue as a Million Dollar location. Beautiful.
Bad Things about this Art Fair:Set up and tear down are horrendous. That is why the promoter offered transport using "gators" for $20 (I think that was per load). This was a $695 show and we were encouraged to set up and be open on Thursday night as invitations were going out to the 50,000 members. Well, something went wrong as only approximately 200 showed up and I couldn't find anyone over the 3+ days that For this booth fee, we wouldn't expect buy/sell or replacement window sponsors hawking their wares. The traffic picked up a little on Friday and Saturday (traffic into the gardens was backed up on the main road in for about 45 minute wait). The amenities were a large communal bowl of pretzels and cups of water. There was a "botanic" theme requirement that didn't seem to be followed as items like $65 leather purses, a musician selling CD's and also a friends paintings and a man who insisted on building an 8' tall wall leaning against my tent and my neighbors tent. Management seemed less than available to remedy the situation. Artist parking is a long, long shuttle bus away.
Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show: The party who recommended the show advised that they will not be back next year. They also barely made booth fee
Additional Commentary on this Show: Weather was hot and the show is in a shaded tree area. Carting your booth down the sidewalk is a bit hard, but is made especially difficult trying to go uphill. I didn't get out of the park until 10:00 PM as service trucks completely blocked the only ways out for 30 minutes at a time.
