What could this Art Fair have done better?:
Maybe advertising a little further than their local area. Philadelphia is not that far away.

Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show:
You will never do an easier show. You have a day to set up and taken down is easy. The staff is there to assist you and they even give you snacks and meals.

Additional Commentary on this Show:
It's just the best outdoor show to do. I've been doing shows for over thirty years so I have an experience in this area. They could not make it any easier to do.

Good Things about this Art Fair:
Well organized, They make set up & take down extremely easy. They have meals for the artists & free waters.

Plenty of assistance from staff during the show. They are very visible and ready to assist you or your customer.

What could this Art Fair have done better?:
It's a large park & some of the booth spaces have obstacles to contend with. Maybe they could spread it out even more than they do now & eliminate the fence posts & ports potty areas for artist booths.

Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show:
I would recommend this show to all professional artists. It's juried, the quality level is good and maybe difficult for beginners to the show circuit to compete.

Longs Park is a top notch show, other artists should be aware. There isn't many shows as well run as this one.

Good Things about this Art Fair:
The people who run this show are so efficient and pleasant to deal with, it's unbelievable. They advertise widely and it pays off, the park is always crowded.

The set up is incredibly easy, you have all day if you need it. The have 'ambassadors' that will booth sit and they check on you regularly. They also provide breakfast meals and a dinner, what more can you ask?

What could this Art Fair have done better?:
They could make the entrance from the highway a little more obvious, you can easily drive by when there is traffic, but it's easy to turn around, not a big deal really.

Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show:
I would highly recommend this show. They can't provide sales, that's up to you but they certainly provide everything else.

Deborah Banyas

Show Name: Longs Park Art & Craft Show
City and State: Lancaster, PA
Your Medium: 3D mixed media
Year you most recently exhibited at this Show: 2011
Your Estimated Sales at this Show: $2001-$5000
Number of Years You have Exhibited in this Show: 10+ times!
Attendance: (1 is poor, 5 is great) 2
Location: 4
Facilities: 5 (great)
Ease of Participating: 5 (great)
Sales: 2
Overall: 3
Booth Fee vs. Your Sales Ratio: Poor
Estimated Attendance: 501-10,000 people

Good Things about this Art Fair: Lovely setting. Easy to set up. The show really knows how to treat artists well. Wonderful full breakfast every day and great artists dinner.
One of the highest quality outdoor shows in terms of artwork displayed.
No "awards". Terrific volunteers.
Show hours are civilized.

Bad Things about this Art Fair: In the old days, 4 days may have been justified... now it is a 2 day show stretched into 4. Hotels are very expensive in Lancaster that time of year. Fairly high booth fee.

Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show: The show is a bit more conservative than the lineup of artists would suggest. If you have the right item, you can do well (wearables and moderately priced glass seemed to do better).
There was a lot of complaining about sales the last couple of years.

Carol Boucher

Show Name: Long's Park Art & Craft Festival
City and State: Lancaster, PA
Your Medium: Drawing
Year you most recently exhibited at this Show: 2009
Your Estimated Sales at this Show: $501-$2000
Number of Years You have Exhibited in this Show: 3-5 times
Attendance: (1 is poor, 5 is great) 5 (great)
Location: 5 (great)
Facilities: 5 (great)
Ease of Participating: 5 (great)
Sales: 4
Overall: 4
Booth Fee vs. Your Sales Ratio: Okay
Estimated Attendance: 5001-10,000 people

Good Things about this Art Fair:
Estimated attendance-I am not sure, probably was more, just chose something....

Great show for crafts, some 2D artists have reported good sales/attendance. Photographers seemed to do well. Well juried for quality.

Van camping on site is permitted, they have a shower. Wonderful peaceful and secure setting, regular security patrols (but take precautions and be sensible). Catered food is exemplary.

Organization is good, show directors are responsive and professional, seasoned team of loyal volunteers make this show a pleasure to do.
Prior day setup great, check-in works well, load-out great.

Bad Things about this Art Fair:
2D fine art media are thinly represented compared with craft media. This can work to advantage, or not, and much depends on your booth location.

Try to avoid being located on the back side of the pond farthest away from music/food area. Some booth locations are too far from the action to get equal foot traffic. I have had good booth spaces and "less" good ones here...

I have also been flooded out, so bring shims, rain boots(mud happens)... Staff come around with mulch to help absorb the standing water.

Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show:
Pay extra to get electricity-it gets dark under the trees. Get double booth if possible, great deal.

Definitely do prior day setup to deal with fenceposts which are in every booth but in different places within the booth, and most cannot be removed under penalty from park. Most people cover them or work them into the booth design somehow.

Additional Commentary on this Show:
I would definitely apply, though not all four days are probably necessary. Have heard some artists say they make the same amount in four days as two days at a normal show.

Total sales were a bit below average--which, when stretched over a four day show, made it seem deadly slow. But don't let me discourage you--I'm not complaining, and almost everyone else seemed to be having a GREAT show. Our neighbors had one of their best shows ever. We saw lots of purchases, both large and small, parade past our booth near the exit. But what I saw was a lot of conservative art, and a lot of functional and/or wearable art. One last warning--it gets very dusty, being on the dirt as our booth was, so bring some kind of floor covering.

What I noticed when I compared the names on our sales slips to the street addresses on the mailing lists was that most of our buyers were from urban areas--Philly, New Jersey, DC, etc. Not nearly as many from Lancaster or the surrounding area. So--you live and learn. It's great that they pull in buyers from so far afield, but this may not be our show--we seem to do better in an urban environment.
