Ja browne

I did this show in 2010 ended up fleeing the sales were so bad. Seemed like no one was doing well that weekend.USED to be a ok show now its not worth ANYONES (artist or buyer) time.
This seems to be an overwhelming theme for more than 50% of my shows. Each year my cost to make my items goes up and I really try not to raise prices but when the shows raise the price to us, it puts all artists in a very bad position. We just keep making less and less each year and ORGANIZERS rake in the money. Something is very wrong with this picture!

Good Things about this Art Fair:
It is local for us?

Bad Things about this Art Fair:
It is no longer an art show, 100% craft buyers. The buyers want cheap, cheap, cheap and have no appreciation for art. The people that visit the sculpture show (have money and appreciation for art) no longer come down to art in the park.

Could not even sell our small prints in bin. Only sold 2 for $170 (after selling $2k+ worth in crested butte the week before). Did not even cover booth fee of $225. New layout in 2014 was horrendous. Patrons were even complaining about the layout and getting lost. A parking lot that was for vendors in past years was designated for TVAL (art league) people only. Whoever ran it in 2014 did a very bad job. After doing the show for 7 years, we will not do this show again.

Good Things about this Art Fair: The staff is very helpful, doing everything they can to make load in and load out easy. The booth spaces are oversized, leaving plenty of room. Everyone has a corner booth.

Bad Things about this Art Fair: The board of directors in charge of this show has ruined it as an art show, allowing the sort of low end, manufactured junk one expects to see at a flea market. The growing number of vendors re-selling this sort of stuff has attracted a demographic that is largely not interested in fine art. Unless we hear that the this has gone back to being strictly an art show we won't return.

Advice to Other Artists Considering this Show: What is your product? If you are selling fine art think very hard about competing with the people selling $5 jewelry and pillow pets. Logistically, this is an easier show to move in and out of with lots of help, but you will have to move in and out over grass. If you go you may want to take that in to consideration when choosing how far you want your booth to be from the curb.
